Renee’s Disorganized Brain Story

I’ve spent a lifetime entertaining thoughts and ideas. Like many multipassionate people, I found it frustrating to be distracted with constant new passions, but no sense of direction.

My list is long of disconnected talents and jobs: a kitchen designer, artist, seamstress, blogger, website administrator, video editor, graphic artists, project manager, IT person, trainer, Sunday school teacher, home renovater, bookkeeper, and on and on.

Here’s my story in my words…

Not like everyone else

When I was little, I dreamt of specializing in one thing, and I couldn’t wait when that “one thing” would be revealed to me. That big reveal never came. Instead I spent years frustrated at my seemingly endless interests.

In 1993, I read a magazine article about a new term floating around called “attention deficit.” I still have that article today. It was just one step in my journey to figuring out how I ticked. Although not officially diagnosed with ADD, I do admittedly feel challenged. There’s no shortage of labels to which we can apply to ourselves.

In the end, we must all figure our brains out, no matter what the label is. We did’nt come with instruction manuals and each of us is appreciatively different from each another. I was continuing to feel lost until I learned about Barbara Sher’s “Scanners” – Emilie Wapnick’s “Multipotentialites” – and the army of creatives claiming themselves to be “multi-passionate.”

Suddenly, everything made sense. I had given a good go of various online ventures when I had started leafing through “Refuse To Choose” by Barbara Sher. I now understood that for me, it was OK to dabble among many things. It was even more exciting to learn there was nothing the matter with my brain. It was so exhilarating!

Multipassionate people are naturally creative

I always held on to the idea of a creative pursuit. Moon-lighting attempts to get side projects off the ground failed. Unexpected events and raising a family competed with personal goals. Random projects side-tracked my easily distracted brain.

I struggled trying to organize myself and move projects forward. It seems I earned the title of “not a finisher” – a label none of us are proud of. After spending a lifetime trying to figure out my brain, I am now learning to work with it instead of against it. I hope you benefit from my revelations, because it is exhausting to go home on a daily basis, feeling defeated when in fact, you are blessed with amazing brain-power you don’t even know you have!

Cope as creatively as you can

My mottos is “Cope as creatively as you can!” That’s how my brain is wired. I was the art kid at school, later getting my start as a kitchen designer. As a stay-at-home mom, I took some web design classes and was surprised to find out how easily my mind wrapped around coding. In the early days of the Internet, I built and managed websites as a free-lance job.

Many years later, I wrote and illustrated a book and even created a comic strip (all offline now). I still continue to draw. There is a zen/flow state that makes everything better. I like creating resources and products inspired for minds that think a little differently. Knowing and connecting with others who share the same brain-struggle and quirky, creative mind is very comforting.

The joy of helping others

Despite all of my passions, there was one consistent dream I had – to run a successful website. Renee’s Rabbit Hole is all that.

I want to guide the next generation of amazing thinkers, offering emotional support and cheerleading the efforts of these multipassionate/multipotential superstars. My goal is to help fast-forward all of these wonderful entreprenuers, creatives, and great thinkers to their full potential. I don’t want them to spend years lost like I was. I cannot tell you how fulfilled I am.

THANK YOU for supporting this website and the work I do. I truly feel that we are all in this together – I urge you to cope everyday with your world as creatively as you can, and kiss that amazing brain of yours!

Yours in new adventures, Renee
