Life Cycle of a Shiny Object

This short presentation was inspired by the folks over on the Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@UnderstoodOrg – the video is entitled “Changing Hobbies, Tips From an ADHD Coach” is definitely not getting enough love – it really made me think about my own graveyard of discarded projects.

See the video at If you have been completely captivated by a shiny new gadget, hobby, or idea—only for the excitement to fade as quickly as it arrived. If you want to know the difference between a shiny object an ADHD rabbit hole, visit that article.

I had not considered dopamine as playing such a large part in this fiasco. The guilt and shame of walking away from the shiny object is another case of big feelings that can sabotage a great idea.

I know I’ve felt the out-of-control feeling of hyperfixation—from the *most exciting thing ever* quickly turning into a dusty relic in the corner of our minds and homes. It seems to be a roller-coaster from the thrill of discovery to the inevitable *meh* phase, coupled with bursts of enthusiasm.

If your life is a series of obsessions, abandoned hobbies, and forgotten hyperfixations—this one’s for you. Visit Renee’s Rabbit Hole Youtube channel and subscribe for more ADHD-friendly content! 💡✨
